Five Ways to Prepare Your Car for Shipping
You have already identified the right Canada car shipping company to move your vehicle, and you have agreed on the rates as well as the pickup and drop off points for your car. All you are now waiting for is for the car to be shipped. But before you get excited of how an awesome shipping experience you are going to have; you may be in for a shock if you have not prepared the car for shipping in the right manner. Presented below are six ways you can use to prepare your car for shipping before the handover:
Clean the car
Before handing over the car, be sure to give it a good wash. Clean both exterior and the interior and while doing so, note all the existing dents and scratches as well as any other discoloring or paint chips that might be present on the body. In rare occasions, dings may appear on the body of the vehicle upon delivery, and this is also the same case with the paint chips. The purpose of giving the car a good wash is so that you will be able to tell if there are additional paint chips or dings occasioned by the shipping so that the company may offer you compensation.
Photograph all the existing damages
Take photos with date stamps of all the paint chips, scratches and dents on the car before you release it to the auto shipping company. Ensure that the photos are clear enough so that you can use them to tell the difference should your car be delivered with additional damages obtained during the shipping process.
Take out valuable items from the car
The insurance companies will not offer compensation for damages or theft of any valuable items shipped inside the car. You are thus encouraged to ensure that by the time you hand over to the shipping company, it doesn’t have any valuable item in the interior. These include items such as the stereo player, GPS system and any other custom accessories you might have installed in the car.
If the car has toll tags, remember to remove those as well so that you don’t accumulate fees for every toll station passed by the car. You should also remove or disable a custom alarm system. If it goes off when the car is on shipping, the truck driver has the right to disable it using any means necessary.
Make a spare set of keys
You don’t want to hand over the only pair of keys to the auto shipping company truck driver. Make an extra set of keys so that if something goes wrong during the shipping and the driver loses his set, you will still manage to access the vehicle without calling a mechanic or breaking the window.
Empty the gas tank
You don’t need a lot of gas to ship the vehicle. Just ensure that it has enough gas to facilitate loading, unloading and parking once it arrives at the final destination.
