Vehicle Transport Could Have Been the Answer in One of These Great Car Movies

Ever since Henry Ford introduced the Model-T, Americans have had a fascination with automobiles. We wait in anticipation for a glimpse at next year’s models, dream about owning a car with the latest technology, and protect our automobiles from unnecessary wear and tear by using vehicle transport services. Filmmakers have cashed in on our love of cars by making them almost as important as the stars in some movies. See if you remember the autos in these films.

1. American Graffiti (1973)

American Graffiti is a classic film about four teenage friends spending one last night together before two of them leave for college. The setting is Modesto, California in September, 1962. The main characters, Curt Henderson (Richard Dreyfuss), Stever Bolander (Ron Howard), Terry “The Toad” Fields (Charles Martin Smith), and John Milner (Paul Le Mat) end up spending the night cruising around Modesto in their cars. Curt is infatuated by a beautiful blonde (Suzanne Somers) in a white 1956 Ford Thunderbird and drives all night in his 1951 Mercury Coupe to find her, with no success. John cruises the town in his 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe, and Terry drives Steve’s 1958 Chevy Impala.

2. The Blues Brothers (1980)

Two brothers, “Joliet” Jake (John Belushi) and Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd), travel around in style in The Blues Brothers. “The Bluesmobile,” a 1974 Dodge Monaco, is their mode of transportation throughout their misadventures as they work to raise money to pay the property taxes for the orphanage that raised them. Elwood tells Jake, “It’s got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant; it’s got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It’s a model made before catalytic converters, so it’ll run good on regular gas.” The police chase Jake and Elwood for various reasons, and in one scene, The Bluesmobile makes a grand entrance into a mall as the brothers try to outrun their pursuers.

3. The Gumball Rally (1976)

The Gumball Rally follows an illegal road race from New York to Long Beach, CA (this is where most of us would use vehicle transport!). The movie is based on the real-life Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. Sixteen drivers take to the road in AC Cobras, Ferraris, Camaros, Porsche 911’s, Mercedes 300SL’s, and Rolls Royces. The race participants manage to avoid being arrested by New York policeman Lieutenant Roscoe, only to be caught by California police for illegal parking at the end of the race. The large cast includes Michael Sarrazin, Nicholas Pryor, Gary Busey, Susan Flannery, and Harvey Jason.
